The purpose of this report is to identify the current baseline trajectory of civilization by examining interacting economic, technological, environmental, political, demographic, infrastructural, and cognitive pressures.
This report does not claim certainty.
It presents a structured projection based on currently visible evidence, emerging trends, cascade pathways, and system incentives.

Executive Summary
The current baseline projection is not immediate civilizational collapse.
The more likely near-term trajectory is managed deterioration with selective continuity.
This means that civilization may remain technically functional while becoming increasingly uneven, exclusionary, automated, expensive, and dependent on privately controlled infrastructure.
Some systems will continue improving.
Some sectors will become more efficient.
Some technologies will accelerate.
Some corporations and institutions will gain power.
Some regions and classes will remain stable or prosper.
At the same time, ordinary participation may become harder for a growing share of the population.
The central risk is not that the machine stops.
The central risk is that the machine keeps running while requiring fewer people to participate securely inside it.
Core Thesis
The dominant near-term risk is recursive compression.
Recursive compression occurs when multiple pressures reinforce one another and reduce the ability of ordinary people to maintain stable participation in society.
The primary compression loop is:
Automation and artificial intelligence reduce labour demand → income security weakens → household formation weakens → cost-of-living pressure rises → public systems face greater demand and weaker revenue capacity → institutions adopt more automation, austerity, surveillance, or private-sector dependency → broad participation weakens further.
This is not a single-event crisis.
It is a system pattern.
Baseline Scenario
Managed Deterioration with Selective Continuity
The baseline scenario assumes that civilization continues operating through 2031, but with increasing separation between official stability and lived instability.
Under this scenario:
automation continues advancing
artificial intelligence becomes more deeply integrated into work, administration, media, research, and governance
cost-of-living pressure remains structurally high
housing access remains difficult for non-owners and lower-income workers
public systems become increasingly dependent on private infrastructure
climate, insurance, and infrastructure pressures continue rising
institutional legitimacy continues weakening
political systems focus on short-term management rather than structural redesign
human participation becomes more conditional, surveilled, or economically insecure
This trajectory does not require a coordinated plan.
It can emerge from ordinary institutional incentives.

Cascade Model
The report uses cascade analysis.
A cascade occurs when one pressure activates another.
A recursive cascade occurs when the effect feeds back into the cause.
Example:
Fewer stable jobs → lower consumer spending → business weakness → cost-cutting → automation adoption → fewer stable jobs.
Another example:
Housing unaffordability → delayed household formation → lower birth rates → demographic imbalance → higher dependency burden → greater fiscal pressure → weaker public services → lower social legitimacy.
Another example:
Climate damage → insurance repricing → ownership stress → mortgage instability → municipal revenue pressure → infrastructure underinvestment → further vulnerability to climate damage.
The report’s central analytical task is to identify which cascades are currently active, which are accelerating, and which may become dominant before 2031.

Phase 3 — 2030 to 2031
Selective Continuity or Structural Break
Likely features:
some regions and sectors remain functional or prosperous
others experience deeper exclusion, instability, or administrative containment
public systems face stronger pressure to redefine entitlement, access, work, housing, and security
the central question becomes whether civilization adapts through broad participation or narrows into selective continuity

This is the constructive intervention scenario.
Scenario B — Managed Deterioration with Selective Continuity
Civilization remains functional, but participation becomes increasingly unequal, conditional, expensive, automated, and institutionally mediated.
This is the current baseline scenario.
Scenario C — Fragmented Breakdown
Multiple cascades reinforce faster than institutions can manage, producing regional instability, deeper economic exclusion, infrastructure failures, political disorder, or legitimacy collapse.
This is not the baseline, but it remains a serious risk pathway.
